RBI hikes threshold for deposits made by non-financial small businesses by 50% to Rs 7.5 cr for maintenance of LCR

With an objective to align guidelines with the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) standard, the RBI has decided to increase the threshold limit for deposits and other extensions of funds made by non-financial Small Business Customers from ? 5 crore to ? 7.5 crores for the purpose of maintenance of Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR). This circular is applicable w.e.f. 06.01.2011 to all Commercial Banks other than Regional Rural Banks, Local Area Banks and Payments Banks. This amendment would also be applicable to deposits and other extensions of funds received from Small Business Customers referred to in ‘Basel III Framework on Liquidity Standards – Net Stable Funding Ratio (NSFR) – Final Guidelines’.
